The Meteors - Little Red Riding Hood

The Meteors ARE the founding fathers of PsychoBilly. They fromed in 1980 and are originally from the United Kingdom, they are credited with giving psychobilly its distinctive sound and style. Though the origins of psychobilly are debated, The Meteors are the first band to self-identify as psychobilly, and are often credited with the distinction of being the only "pure" psychobilly band among fans of the genre.

The Creepshow - Zombies Ate Her Brain

The Creepshow is a HorrorBilly band from Ontario Canada. HorrorBilly is a subgenre of PsychoBilly that directly uses horror movie refrences in their lyrics and style. The band formed in 2005 and has two amazing albums that certify them as PsychoBilly queens and kings. The lead singer Hellcat departed from the band in 2008 for maternal reasons and her sister SarahSin stepped up to take her place.

Reverend Horton Heat - Galaxie 500

The Reverend began his sermons in 1985 and has been captivating us ever since. His tunes can be found in various video games like Guitar Hero 2 which features the song "PsychoBilly Freakout" and movies like Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls features the song "Watusi Rodeo". See you love the Reverend even if you did'nt know it.

Stray Cats - Rock This Town

Taking it back to the 80's with this Klassic. The Stray Cats were formed in 1980 and are origionally from "The Big Apple" this band had saved the Rockabilly scene from vanishing altogether. By 1982 the fashion sense and style of RockaBilly began to spread. Brian Setzer is a genius by all standards.

PsychoBilly Art with Skin Appeal

Artwork has always been inspired by music and vice versa. Psychobilly is no different, everywhere you look you can find posters, tatoos and collages inspired by the Kulture. Here are just a few.

Starlite Wranglers

Oh yes the Rockabilly sound has even hit the Japanese shores. I present to you the Japanese Rockabilly band Starlite Wranglers!

Other aspects of PsychoBilly - Neo-Burlesque

PsychoBilly has been influenced by many aspects of the underground culture as well as mainstream society. The Burlesque show that was seen in early 20th century has highly influenced the music genre.

It is also important to note that if a subject has been influenced by a certain aspect of culture then you can bet that it will influence other (if not the same idea as in this case) subgenres within that same realm. Contemporary Burlesque shows for example are highly influenced by Psycho Kulture. The idea of the Burlesque has died some time ago but this genre of music has actually rekindled the idea with an edge.

These shows called Neo-Burlesque depict women in the same light as in the 50's but with a Psycho edge that is quite obvious.

The HorrorPops - Where You Can't Follow

The HorrorPops have been around since 1996 and are considered "Mainstream" in the Psycho scene. You can tell by the quality of the video that they know what they are doing.

Zombie Ghost Train - R.I.P.

Zombie Ghost Train were a blues infused Rockabilly band from Australia with two killer albums under their belts. Sadly the band broke up in 2009 due to creative differences.

Kustom Kulture - The style

I bet your asking yourself right now where did this style come from?

Still confused? Well i'll give you a hint.

Well what i'm trying to get at is that you will find your answer if take a look back at the 50's.

Kustom Kulture is a American neologism used to describe the artworks, vehicles, hairstyles, and fashions of those who drove and built custom cars and motorcycles in the United States of America from the 1950s through today. Such examples are Hot Rodding, greasers, and the dance style.

Lets just say that if the 1950's had never exisited then PsychoBilly wouldnt exist either. It is our way to pay hommage to the true days of rebellion.

Koffin Kats - Wild Ride

The Kats are one of the hardest working bands in the genre today. With four amazing albums under their belt they have definatley taken the Psycho scene by storm.

PsychoBilly: The definition

What is Psychobilly you ask? Well if that last video didn’t do it for you then I guess I’ll have to spell it out. Psychobilly is a fusion genre of rock music that mixes elements of punk rock, rockabilly, and other genres. Psychobilly often references its lyrics to science fiction, horror and exploitation films, violence, lurid sexuality, and other topics generally considered taboo, though often presented in a comedic fashion. Psychobilly is often played with an upright double bass as you saw in that last video and in the others to follow this post instead of the electric bass that is more common in modern rock music. The term has come from the Johnny Cash era where in the song "One Piece at a Time" he had coined "a black psychobilly Cadillac" and it has stuck ever since. Other bands that have notably furthered the evolution of this genre are The Meteors, The Reverend Horton Heat, Sasquatch and the Sickabillies, The HorrorPops, The Creepshow and many more. SOOOO lets get to more videos!
